Dennis “Denny” Joseph Foxhoven, the son of Joseph and Veronica (Solko) Foxhoven, was born on March 23, 1941, in Whiting. He was the third child of five. The family moved to a farm near Mapleton, where he received his education from Maple Valley High School graduating with the class of 1959. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving for three years. He looked back fondly on his time spent in Stuttgart, Germany.

Upon his honorable discharge and return from the Army, Denny married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Passick, on Aug. 25, 1962, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. From this union, three children were born: Joseph (lost in infancy), Tony, and Genise. Denny and Bev raised their family in Storm Lake, until 1982 when they then moved to Sloan. Bev passed away on Jan. 24, 1985, after a long battle with cancer. Shortly thereafter, Denny moved to Sheldon, where he was introduced to Marlene Lubbers by a mutual friend. They married on July 11, 1986. Denny’s job with MidAmerican Energy brought he and Marlene to Ida Grove, in 1990 where he lived until his untimely passing.

Denny worked various jobs after his time in the military, retiring from MidAmerican Energy in 2003 after 25 years of service. Denny was an avid lover of all things outdoors including golf, fishing, hunting, perfecting his yard, and watching Iowa Hawkeye sports. Additionally, he also enjoyed reading mystery and history books. Denny loved competition whether it be on the golf course or a game of cards with family and friends. Many of his best friends were met on the golf course.

Denny lived life to the fullest and was a wonderful role model to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Papa Denny. He was quick to make friends in any setting and maintained a positive outlook on life regardless of the difficult circumstances he faced throughout his lifetime. He was proud of his faith, family, and friends.

Left to cherish his memory include his children Tony (Eileen) Foxhoven of Cedar Rapids, and Genise (Brian) Bald of Papillion, Nebraska; stepchildren Pam (Joe) Paolo of Inverness, Florida, Larry (Rhonda) Kahl of Neenah, Wisconsin and Dan (Joan) Kahl of Georgetown, Kentucky; stepson-in-law Alan Robinson of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister Alice (Gene) Wimmer; brother Ron (Kathy) Foxhoven; sisters-in-law Kay (Bob) Long and Cinda Passick; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Veronica Foxhoven; first wife Beverly Foxhoven; infant son Joseph Foxhoven; second wife Marlene Foxhoven; brother Richard (Noreen) Foxhoven; sister Karen Foxhoven; brother-in-law Dusty Passick; and stepdaughter Gwen Robinson.
